The Gatekeepers were a very influential band for a small group of friends - small world experience for example - when they began in the early-mid80s, with one eye on SydBarrett-esque song stylings, and another on non-standard tunings - an idea which was a lot less common than even a few years later. The group had various line-ups, always around singer/songwriter Peter Jetnikoff and bassplayer (& drummer) Greg Wadley, who met when Peter joined the Pits. Ian Wadley drummed in one line-up, based in Melbourne in 1988; live this group played under the name Pancreas but reverted to The Gatekeepers on releasing a 12" EP. Ian returned to Brisbane to rejoin the Holy Ghosts - the others continued to record under the old name, as well as recording and performing in Greg's project - New Waver www.spill-label.org/nw
